How to use the Case Converter

  1. Paste the text into the box.
  2. Click the case you need: UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case or Sentence case.
  3. Copy the result back into your document, email or spreadsheet.

When to use it

The classic cases are a paragraph typed with caps lock on, a product list exported from a supplier in all capitals, headings that need consistent title case across a catalogue, and names imported from a form in lowercase. Fixing these by hand is slow and error-prone; converting the whole block at once and then correcting the few exceptions, such as brand names or acronyms, is much faster.

What each case does

UPPERCASE and lowercase change every letter. Title Case capitalises the first letter of every word and lowercases the rest, which is right for headings and product names but will also capitalise "and", "of" and "the"; edit those by hand if your style guide lowercases them. Sentence case capitalises the first letter after each full stop, question mark or exclamation mark and lowercases everything else, so proper nouns inside a sentence need putting back. All four run on the whole box at once.

Worked example

A supplier's price list arrives as "STAINLESS STEEL MIXING BOWL 5L - SET OF 3". Title Case turns it into "Stainless Steel Mixing Bowl 5l - Set Of 3"; two fixes by hand ("5L", "of") and it is a product title. A customer note typed with caps lock on, "PLEASE DELIVER TO THE BACK ENTRANCE. THE FRONT IS CLOSED ON MONDAYS.", goes through Sentence case and comes out readable in one click, with "Mondays" the only word to correct.

Common mistakes

When this tool is the wrong one

It changes case and nothing else. For counting words or characters against a limit, the Word & Character Counter; for writing structured text that becomes HTML, the Markdown editor. Find-and-replace, trimming spaces and de-duplicating lines are word-processor or spreadsheet jobs.

Good to know

Title Case capitalises the first letter of every word, so short words like "of" and "and" will be capitalised too; check headings against your style guide afterwards. The tool handles large blocks of text without a limit, and nothing is uploaded, so it is fine for confidential documents.
