75% Off: sale price, savings and the reverse calculation
A 75% discount leaves 25% of the price to pay. For a $649.00 ticket that is $162.25 after a $486.75 saving. Use the table for quick checks and the stacked-discount rows if a coupon is applied on top.

How the discount is calculated
saving = original × 75/100
Two ways to reach the same number. Subtract: $649.00 minus 75% of $649.00 ($486.75) is $162.25. Multiply: $649.00 × 0.25 is $162.25. The multiplication is faster for a whole list of prices.

A second discount on top of 75%
If a coupon for 20% is applied after the 75% sale discount, the customer pays 0.25 × 0.8 of the original, an effective 80% off rather than 95%. The table shows every combination for the usual coupon sizes.
| Discounts applied | Effective discount | Final price on $649.00 | Not |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75% then 5% more | 76.2% | $154.14 | 80% |
| 75% then 10% more | 77.5% | $146.03 | 85% |
| 75% then 15% more | 78.8% | $137.91 | 90% |
| 75% then 20% more | 80% | $129.80 | 95% |
| 75% then 25% more | 81.2% | $121.69 | 100% |
Reverse: from the sale price back to the original
To recover the original price from a 75%-off sale price, divide by 0.25. A sale price of $162.25 means an original of $649.00. Adding 75% back to $162.25 would give $283.94, which is too low.
Mental math for 75%
For a seller, 75% off is deeper than most gross margins: any product with a margin below 75% sells at a loss at this discount, and a product bought at keystone (50% margin) loses 25% of its cost on every unit. Use the Profit Margin Calculator to check the line before running the promotion.
